Phase 2 · Grow

Shopify SEO

Most Shopify stores rank for their brand name and almost nothing else. This is the work that gets your collections and products found by people ready to buy who don’t know you yet.

The real problem

Shopify Handles the Basics and Then Stops

Shopify does reasonable technical SEO out of the box. Clean-ish URLs, mobile-responsive themes, decent speed if you haven’t installed fourteen apps. That’s where the help ends.

What it can’t do is stop your product descriptions being identical to forty other retailers selling the same item. It can’t structure your collections around what people search for. It won’t tell you your filters generated eleven thousand crawlable URLs, or that discontinued products are turning into 404s and taking their rankings with them.

So most stores stay dependent on paid traffic. Which works until you stop paying.

The explainer

Six Things That Don’t Apply to a Normal Website

Collection pages matter more than product pages.

Someone searching “leather office chairs” is researching, not buying a specific item. That query is served by a collection page — which on most stores is a title, a filter bar and a product grid with no content. The biggest untapped ranking asset in ecommerce.

Your product descriptions aren’t unique.

Supplier copy pasted across every retailer means dozens of near-identical pages competing. Google picks one, and it usually isn’t the smallest store.

Shopify creates duplicate product URLs.

Products are reachable at both /products/item and /collections/name/products/item. Shopify canonicalises this by default, but themes and apps regularly break it.

Filters generate crawl waste.

Colour, size, price, brand can multiply into thousands of near-identical URLs, so Google spends crawl budget on filter combinations instead of pages that matter.

Products disappear.

Discontinued items become 404s and lose their rankings and links. Each needs a decision: keep, redirect, or retire properly.

Structured data does visible work.

Product schema drives price, availability and review stars in results — one of the few SEO changes with an immediately visible effect on click-through.

Our position

On most stores, restructuring collections and rewriting the top fifty product descriptions produces more than a year of blog posts would. We’d rather do the boring thing that works.

How it works

How Projects Actually Run

  1. Step 01 of 05

    Free audit and scope

We look at what exists, what’s working and what isn’t, then agree a written scope and fixed price before anything starts.

  2. Step 02 of 05

    Plan and structure

The decisions that matter get made first — architecture, targeting or process mapping depending on the work.

  3. Step 03 of 05

    Build or launch

Delivery, with everything documented as we go rather than at the end.

  4. Step 04 of 05

    Test and verify

Checked properly before it goes live, not after someone reports a problem.

  5. Step 05 of 05

    Measure and adjust

Reporting on what the work produced, with a call rather than just a document.

Where this fits

Grow Is Phase Two of Four

Phase02of 04Grow

This phase is cheapest when phase one was done properly — a site with schema and clean structure means we optimise from day one instead of repairing.

It’s also what makes phase three necessary: once enquiries arrive in volume, the gaps in how you handle them stop being tolerable.

Isn’t Shopify already good for SEO?
Technically, mostly yes. What it can’t do is write unique descriptions, structure collections around demand, or manage crawl waste.
How long before organic revenue moves?
Technical fixes and schema can affect click-through within weeks. Rankings usually take three to six months.
Do I need to rewrite all my product descriptions?
No — the top sellers and highest-margin items first.
What happens to discontinued products?
Each gets a decision: keep, redirect to the nearest equivalent, or retire properly. Deleting loses rankings.
Can you work alongside our paid campaigns?
Yes, and usually should. Ads produce revenue now while organic builds underneath.
Do you handle WooCommerce too?
Yes. The principles are the same; the technical specifics differ.
Does this work for stores selling internationally?
Yes, and it’s often where ecommerce SEO pays best for Pakistani sellers.
What reporting do we get?
Organic revenue and conversion rate monthly, with a call. Not a ranking spreadsheet.
